Our mission is to discover and nurture talented people who have the aptitude to take on the future of the Go world, and to build a system for this in order to nurture strong, world-class professional Go players.
In Japan, Go is one of the representative traditional cultures with a history of more than 1,000 years. It was introduced from the continent before the Nara period (710-794) and took its present form in Japan. Since then, the game has been enjoyed by many people, and with the increase in the number of Go players, the player's skills have improved dramatically. Japan has long been a world leader in the game, but in recent years, the Go population in China and Korea has increased and strong Go players have emerged, it has become increasingly difficult for Japan to win on the international stage.
On the other hand, the number of female players is increasing, and Go has become a popular activity for children due to its potential as an intellectual education. It is also attracting attention as a competition event as a “sport” that requires the use of one's head has been held in international tournaments. In order to create momentum for the revival of a strong Japanese Go culture, it is essential to further develop the game by passing it on to children who will be responsible for the future. It is important to focus on activities to promote Go, such as creating opportunities for more people to meet and interact with the game.
The Foundation believes that in order to nurture strong, world-class professional Go players, it is necessary to create an environment for them. We aim to discover and nurture talented people with the aptitude to take charge of the future of the Go world and to build a system for this purpose.
In addition, we will research and develop intellectual resources and teaching materials related to the spread of Go, conduct various projects that will attract the interest of a wide range of generations, and contribute to the development and promotion of Go culture through exchange and cooperation with a broad range of cultures in various fields.
